Intermag 2008 a Great Success

 

The Intermag 2008 Conference was held in Madrid, Spain on May 4-8, 2008. This was the most successful Intermag Conference ever, with more than 1575 attendees.

1. Dr. Manuel Vazquez, General Co-Chair of the Conference welcomes participants to the Plenary Session.

2. Magnetics Society Honors and Awards Chair Dr. Bruce Gurney invites the participants to honor the accomplishments of their fellow researchers and engineers.

3. Dr. Stan Charap (Professor Emerirus Carnegie Mellon U.), received the 2008 Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Device Technology Award “for quantitative prediction of the superparamagnetic limit in magnetic recording”. The award was presented by Dr. Ed Della Torre, Vice President of the IEEE and Division IV director.

4. Dr. James Daughton, Dr. Stuart Parkin and Dr. Saied Tehrani received the IEEE Daneil E. Noble award “for fundamental contributions to the development of magnetoresistive devices for non-volatile, high density, random access memory”.

5. Dr. Jack Judy received the 2008 Magnetics Society Achivement Award from Dr. Carl Patton, president of the Society.

6. Magnetics Society members elected to the grade of IEEE Fellow were recognized for their accomplishments. 8. Dr. Richard Dee was honored for his many years of service to the Magnetics Society as Chapters Chair and Membership Chair by Dr. Carl Patton, Society President.
